It goes without saying that correspondence courses have many advantages for students. With all possible benefits, there are also a few shortcomings. So here are presented some disadvantages of corresponding courses:
• As correspondence courses give you a chance to complete classes from home, you don't have a possibility to interact with teachers and professors. A student has no a possibility communicate face to face with a professor in the correspondence courses. All they get is printed or online study materials, which they can print for further use. The communication with professors, which can help avoid the doubts in the content, is totally absent here. This can cause a problem if you look through some difficult problems just a few hours before the exam.
• Another problem is that interaction and communication between students is also impossible. Besides studying by yourself can be unexciting and tiresome and you start losing interest to study. It is also important that you lack a sense of competition when you are studying alone and this may influence bad on your future, where competition can be the only way to succeed.
• One more disadvantage of correspondence courses is the fact that they may not be accredited. Accredited courses are better ones as there exists a possibility of financial aid, while non-accredited courses have to be paid for out of your own pocket. It's also hard to evaluate the quality of correspondence courses that are not accredited. Due to the fact that course materials have to be send by mail or by fax back to the educational institution, you may also incur additional expenses beyond the costs of course registration and materials.
• It is also very important that you have to pay the entire sum of money for the courses at the time of registration and this, in most cases does not repay. This can be a problem if you are not pleased with the content offered by the institution that provides the course. This can be a loss of time and money.
• In case you have some problems with one of your traditional classes, you can always come and visit someone who can assist you. But when you sign up for correspondence courses, you don't have that benefit. If you face some problems, you may have to spend time on the telephone in order to trace someone who can assist you. |
